Prabowo and PM Modi Tour Prambanan Temple, Meet Hindu Worshippers

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi toured the Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta on Wednesday, including inspecting the temple’s core area and meeting Hindu worshippers who were praying. Based on a broadcast from the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel, President Prabowo and PM Modi arrived at Prambanan Temple around 12.00 WIB and were welcomed by Minister of Culture Fadli Zon. The two leaders briefly watched a performance of the Rama Shinta dance, drawn from the Ramayana epic and widely known to both Indonesian and Indian societies. Afterwards, President Prabowo and PM Modi posed for photographs with Prambanan Temple as a backdrop, before continuing their visit around the temple grounds. Minister of Culture Fadli Zon then guided President Prabowo and PM Modi, explaining several conservation programmes underway at Prambanan Temple, including a planned joint restoration project to be carried out by the Indonesian and Indian governments. President Prabowo and PM Modi subsequently boarded a buggy driven by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya to the core area of Prambanan Temple. There, they met a number of Hindu worshippers who were praying. PM Modi greeted the Hindu devotees before continuing the visit with President Prabowo to the restoration site. The visit by President Prabowo and PM Modi to Prambanan Temple was part of PM Modi’s state visit to Indonesia from 6 to 8 July 2026. Before arriving at Prambanan Temple, President Prabowo and PM Modi boarded the presidential Super Puma helicopter from Yogyakarta International Airport in Kulon Progo Regency to view Prambanan Temple from above. Four helicopters, including the presidential helicopter, took off from Yogyakarta International Airport, circled the Prambanan Temple complex twice, and then landed at Adisutjipto Air Force Base. From Adisutjipto Air Base, President Prabowo and PM Modi continued their journey by road to Prambanan Temple. The roads within the temple complex were decorated with yellow coconut leaf arrangements, while rows of children waved small flags as the presidential motorcade passed. During the journey to the temple area, President Prabowo also briefly emerged from the roof of the Maung Garuda vehicle to greet the public.
