JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto received a visit from Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Friday (27/3/2026), to discuss global geopolitical developments.

In the meeting, the two national leaders also specifically addressed the conflict in the West Asia region or the Middle East and its impact on world security and economic stability.

“Today’s meaningful meeting with President Prabowo opens constructive space in seeking common ground to address the West Asia conflict that is now pressuring energy safety as well as world economic stability,” said Anwar Ibrahim, quoted from a press release by the Indonesian Communication Agency (Bakom), Friday (27/3/2026).

Anwar also affirmed that Malaysia and Indonesia share common interests in strengthening regional cooperation to maintain stability and the welfare of the people amid increasing global uncertainties.

“In the increasingly acute global uncertainty, Malaysia and Indonesia affirm the need to strengthen principled regional unity to maintain security, ensure stability, and bolster economic resilience for the people’s welfare,” he continued.

Furthermore, Anwar conveyed that Malaysia continues to communicate with world leaders to align views and examine global impacts, particularly in the energy sector and regional security.

“Malaysia remains firm in its stance, rejecting violence, upholding international law, and urging all parties to return to the path of peace,” said Anwar.

“The continuity of global supply chains and strategic trade routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, must be ensured to remain unaffected,” Anwar added.
