Prabowo and Modi View Prambanan Temple from Helicopter
President Prabowo Subianto and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi boarded the presidential Super Puma helicopter from Yogyakarta International Airport in Kulon Progo Regency on Wednesday morning to view Prambanan Temple from above. Four helicopters, including the presidential aircraft, took off from Yogyakarta International Airport, circled the Prambanan Temple complex twice, and then landed at Adisucipto Air Force Base. At Adisucipto Air Force Base, President Prabowo and PM Modi continued their journey by road to Prambanan Temple. The roads within the Prambanan Temple complex were decorated with yellow coconut leaf arrangements, and rows of children waved small flags as the presidential motorcade passed. President Prabowo also took a moment to emerge from the sunroof of the presidential Maung Garuda vehicle to greet the public. A few minutes after departing from Adisucipto Air Force Base, President Prabowo and PM Modi arrived at Prambanan Temple at around 12.00 WIB, where they were welcomed by Minister of Culture Fadli Zon. A Rama Shinta dance performance, drawn from the Ramayana epic widely known in both Indian and Indonesian societies, greeted PM Modi and President Prabowo at Prambanan Temple. The two leaders briefly watched the dance performance before PM Modi and President Prabowo posed for photographs with Prambanan Temple as the backdrop. Subsequently, President Prabowo and PM Modi boarded a buggy driven by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya to head to the core area of Prambanan Temple. In that area, President Prabowo and PM Modi met a number of Hindu devotees who were praying at Prambanan Temple. PM Modi took a moment to greet them before finally continuing the journey with President Prabowo to the restoration site. President Prabowo and PM Modi’s visit to Prambanan Temple is part of PM Modi’s state visit to Indonesia from 6 to 8 July 2026. PM Modi had previously visited Merdeka Palace and, together with President Prabowo, led a bilateral meeting between the delegations of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of India.
