Prabowo and Modi to Sign Conservation Cooperation at Prambanan Temple

President Prabowo Subianto and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are scheduled to visit Prambanan Temple in the Special Region of Yogyakarta on Wednesday to sign a cooperation agreement on the conservation of the temple. Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that the visit to Prambanan is one of the agendas in the series of Prime Minister Modi’s state visit to Indonesia. “Today, Prime Minister Modi together with President Prabowo will depart for Yogyakarta to visit Prambanan Temple, one of the largest Hindu temple sites and a UNESCO World Heritage site, with several agendas, including the signing of cooperation for the conservation of the Prambanan temple,” he said. Prasetyo added that besides the signing of the conservation cooperation, PM Modi is also scheduled to perform prayers within the Prambanan temple complex. Prior to departing for Yogyakarta, PM Modi underwent a series of state agendas in Jakarta on Tuesday. He was received by President Prabowo in a state welcoming ceremony at the State Palace, followed by a bilateral meeting and luncheon. In the afternoon, PM Modi visited the Indonesian parliament complex in Senayan and was received by the leadership of the House of Representatives, the People’s Consultative Assembly, the Regional Representative Council, and other legislative members. In the evening, Modi and President Prabowo attended a meeting with the Indian community in Jakarta. PM Modi previously stated that Prambanan Temple is a symbol of the cultural bonds shared by Indonesia and India, with both countries agreeing to cooperate in the restoration of the temple complex. The restoration and conservation efforts are planned to be carried out by the Indonesian government and the Archaeological Survey of India. The agreement has been under discussion since President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to India in 2025.
