President Prabowo Subianto and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India discussed opportunities for technology exchange cooperation in nuclear energy. The discussion took place during Modi’s visit to Jakarta on Tuesday, 7 July 2026.

Prabowo stated that Indonesia and India are encouraging the strengthening of cooperation in the field of energy security, particularly following global energy market volatility caused by the war in the Middle East.

Cooperation between the two nations, according to Prabowo, includes the development of solar power plant projects. “Also the exchange of technology and capacity in the field of nuclear technology,” President Prabowo said in a joint press statement with Prime Minister Modi at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

In addition to energy, he stated that Indonesia and India are also committed to deepening cooperation in the healthcare sector. The Chairman of the Gerindra Party expressed hope that this cooperation would later expand capacity-building opportunities for doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

During the same meeting, Prabowo noted that he and Modi also exchanged views on various regional and global issues. India and Indonesia continue to support various efforts to advance world peace and stability, as well as ensuring that the voices of the Global South are heard.

“Both countries also continue to support dialogue, diplomacy, and international law as a way to resolve conflicts peacefully in the Middle East,” said Prabowo.

In the Indo-Pacific region, he remarked that Indonesia and India remain committed to realising a free, open, transparent, and international law-based region, while upholding ASEAN centrality.

Prabowo noted that Indonesia and India are two of the largest democracies in the world. India is now the most populous country in the world, while Indonesia ranks fourth. “Therefore, our cooperation will certainly bring benefits to the region,” said Prabowo.

On the same occasion, Modi revealed that he and Prabowo also discussed the issue of Palestine. “We support a two-state solution and a sustainable, long-term peace,” said Modi.

PM Modi is visiting Indonesia for three days. He has been in Jakarta since Monday, 6 July 2026. In addition to visiting the capital, Modi will also travel to Yogyakarta to visit Prambanan Temple.

President Prabowo officially received Modi through a state ceremony at the Merdeka Palace this Tuesday. They also held a closed bilateral meeting attended by their respective delegations, followed by a luncheon.

A number of strategic Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) between Indonesia and India were signed at the Merdeka Palace. The meeting resulted in 16 agreements between the two nations.

In the presence of President Prabowo and PM Modi, one of the cooperation documents exchanged was an agreement between the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Indian Space Research Organisation. This agreement covers cooperation in the field of space research.

Indonesia and India also announced 15 other documents covering cooperation in various fields, ranging from defence, energy, and healthcare to culture and technology.
