Prabowo and Megawati Share Heartwarming Moment at Pancasila Building

President Prabowo Subianto and former President Megawati Soekarnoputri shared a moment of closeness that drew attention during the Pancasila Day commemoration ceremony at the Pancasila Building in Jakarta on Monday, 1 June. Both were seen beaming and holding hands as they left the event venue. Live coverage showed their camaraderie was evident from the start of the ceremony, with Prabowo entering alongside Megawati, who attended as Chairperson of the Pancasila Ideology Development Body (BPIP). Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka also accompanied them.

In addition to conversing warmly with Megawati, President Prabowo interacted with several national figures, including former Vice Presidents Jusuf Kalla and Ma’ruf Amin, as well as State Secretariat Minister Prasetyo Hadi and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

The relationship between Prabowo and Megawati has a long historical background, including their 2009 presidential and vice-presidential candidacy. Despite PDI Perjuangan currently being outside the government, Prabowo has repeatedly shown respect and appreciation for Megawati.

During a DPR RI plenary session on 20 May 2026, Prabowo recounted Megawati’s past support in instructing her team not to obstruct his efforts before he assumed office. He stressed the importance of the opposition role played by PDI Perjuangan in maintaining checks and balances within Indonesia’s democracy. (Z-10)
