Prabowo and Megawati hold hands and smile after Pancasila Day ceremony

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto and former President Megawati Soekarnoputri were seen beaming after the Pancasila Day ceremony at the Pancasila Building, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta on Monday, 1 June 2026.

Prabowo and Megawati left the ceremony venue holding hands. According to the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube footage, Prabowo initially descended from the podium to greet former presidents and vice-presidents, including Megawati, Jusuf Kalla, and Ma’ruf Amin.

He then entered a room behind the podium where he conversed with Jusuf Kalla, Ma’ruf Amin, Megawati, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi. Meanwhile, Gibran, the eldest son of former President Joko Widodo, was observed monitoring the scene and chatting with MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani.

However, Megawati intended to hold Prabowo’s hand. Prabowo immediately responded to her gesture, and they walked together holding hands. The pair, who once campaigned together in the 2009 presidential election, appeared delighted as they exited the room behind the podium.
