Prabowo and Megawati Align, Democrats State SBY Welcomes Move Positively

The Deputy Secretary-General of the Democratic Party, Syahrial Nasution, stated that every leader in Indonesia is essentially a patriot. He noted that leaders will always feel called to provide support, through both thought and action, whenever the nation requires it, transcending political divides.

Syahrial mentioned that this principle applies to SBY, who led Indonesia from 2004 to 2014. He stated that SBY is currently focused on supporting Prabowo’s success in making Indonesia better. Beyond their personal friendship dating back to their youth, both leaders share the same aspirations for the nation’s welfare, albeit through their respective styles. This sentiment extends to other former leaders as well.

He added that there is a sense of tranquility whenever Indonesian leaders show mutual support. He described the public rapport between Prabowo and Megawati as a blessing for Indonesia, specifically noting their recent appearance at the BPIP event on 1 June 2026.

Syahrial further noted that SBY, who was unable to attend the BPIP event due to a prior engagement with The Yudhoyono Institute in Bandung, also welcomes the togetherness of the current and former leaders. He emphasised that the unity displayed by leaders such as Prabowo, Megawati, Jusuf Kalla, and Ma’ruf Amin during the Pancasila Day commemorations carries significant meaning.

According to Syahrial, SBY continues to closely monitor the nation’s current challenges, including economic difficulties, through his various activities. He concluded that the collective efforts and ideas of these leaders, whether expressed physically or through discourse, remain interconnected within the framework of national unity and can serve as vital input for the government.
