Prabowo and Macron Hold Two-Hour Private Meeting, Discuss Energy and Education
President Prabowo Subianto held a private meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace in Paris. The meeting formed part of Prabowo’s foreign visit to Russia and France.
“President Prabowo Subianto departed for home after a brief two-day visit to two world superpowers, namely Russia and France, on 13-14 April 2026. Both countries are two of the five permanent members with veto power in the United Nations (UN) and possess significant strength in the fields of economy and energy resources,” stated Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya in his remarks on Wednesday (15/4/2026).
Teddy conveyed that the private meeting between the two heads of state took place in a warm and productive atmosphere for more than two hours. “The private meeting between President Prabowo and President Emmanuel Macron lasted more than two hours at the Élysée Palace in Paris,” said Teddy.
During the meeting, Teddy explained that the two leaders discussed strengthening strategic cooperation between Indonesia and France in various priority sectors. The focus of the discussions included developing cooperation in the fields of energy, education, digital communications, and mutually beneficial long-term economic investments.
“The meeting discussed enhancing cooperation in various sectors, including energy, education, digital communications, and long-term economic investments,” clarified Teddy.
The personal relationship between Prabowo and Macron is said to be an important foundation in strengthening the partnership between the two countries. Teddy stated that this closeness has been established since Prabowo served as Defence Minister.
“The relationship between the two leaders has been closely tied since President Prabowo was still serving as Minister of Defence until now,” said Teddy.
Prabowo is known to have arrived back in Indonesia after conducting a working visit abroad to Russia and France. While in Europe, Prabowo held separate meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and French President Emmanuel Macron.
Based on a video on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel on Wednesday (15/4), the presidential aircraft carrying Prabowo and his entourage landed around 13:55 WIB at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, East Jakarta. Prabowo arrived accompanied by Foreign Minister Sugiono and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Presidential Chief of Staff Prasetyo Hadi, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and Head of BIN M Herindra were seen welcoming Prabowo’s arrival back home.
