Prabowo and KSSK Meeting Discusses Perry's Replacement? Here's What the Acting BI Governor Says

President Prabowo Subianto held a limited meeting with the Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK), which includes officials from Bank Indonesia (BI). Was the definitive BI Governor to replace Perry Warjiyo discussed in the meeting? Acting BI Governor Destry Damayanti said there was no discussion on the matter. She fully deferred the proposal for a definitive BI Governor to Prabowo. “Oh, not yet, not yet. Earlier… Because we were just following the applicable rules. So if the Bank Indonesia Governor resigns voluntarily, then it goes back to the regulations in the Bank Indonesia Law, and there is a process,” Destry told reporters at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta, Monday (27/7/2026). According to Destry, the process of filling the BI Governor position will follow the provisions stipulated in the Bank Indonesia Law. She explained that the replacement mechanism fully refers to the applicable rules, including the stages of nomination, selection, and appointment by the President with the approval of the House of Representatives (DPR). “So the provisions will be followed accordingly. And my appointment as Acting Governor is indeed mandated by the law,” said Destry. Destry also explained that her appointment as Acting BI Governor is a legal mandate. The Senior Deputy Governor automatically carries out the duties as Acting Governor until the President initiates the process of selecting a definitive governor in accordance with the applicable provisions. “If the Governor is permanently unavailable, including resigning, then the Senior Deputy Governor will replace the role of the Governor as Acting Governor, until the definitive process is initiated by the President,” she stated.
