Prabowo and Jokowi Exchange Salutes, Andre Rosiade Says Relationship Remains Warm

Deputy Chairman of the Gerindra Party Faction in the DPR, Andre Rosiade, has responded to the recent exchange of salutes between President Prabowo Subianto and the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), during the 80th Bhayangkara Day celebration in Cikeas, Bogor Regency. Andre assessed that the two leaders demonstrated a very good and warm relationship. “The relationship between the Gerindra Party and Mr Prabowo with Mr Jokowi is very good and warm. And that is proven, the people can witness firsthand how warm Mr Prabowo and Mr Jokowi were at the National Police anniversary on 1 July,” Andre told reporters in the Alam Sutera area, Serpong, South Tangerang, on Saturday (4/7/2026). The Chairman of the Gerindra Party’s West Sumatra Regional Leadership Council stated that Jokowi has a good relationship with the Gerindra Party. In fact, he said, Jokowi often sends his regards to President Prabowo and other senior Gerindra Party officials. “I witnessed it myself and I have also met Mr Jokowi several times, by chance. For example, at a football field. I happen to support Semen Padang, Mr Jokowi supports Persis Solo, something like that,” Andre said. “So, I see that every time we meet, Mr Jokowi is very warm and sends his regards to Mr Prabowo, sends his regards to Mr Dasco, like that. That shows that the relationship between the Gerindra Party, Mr Prabowo, and Mr Jokowi is very good,” he explained. Andre also dismissed rumours of a rift between the two. He insisted there is no such thing as a hot-and-cold relationship between President Prabowo and Jokowi. “In my opinion, we should not listen to baseless rumours that are untrue,” he added. For context, an interesting moment occurred when President Prabowo Subianto and the 7th President Joko Widodo met at the 80th Anniversary of the Indonesian National Police, or Bhayangkara Day. Unlike other guests, Prabowo and Jokowi exchanged salutes when they crossed paths. The Bhayangkara Day ceremony was held at the Police Mobile Brigade Training Centre in Cikeas, Bogor, West Java. Besides Jokowi, the 10th and 12th Vice President Jusuf Kalla also attended the event. Upon arrival, Prabowo shook hands with the guests one by one. He also greeted the wife of the 4th President Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur), Sinta Nuriyah Wahid, who was seated next to Jokowi. When it was Jokowi’s turn, Prabowo gave a salute, which was immediately reciprocated by Jokowi. The two then shook hands. Prabowo then continued to greet other guests, including House Speaker Puan Maharani, Regional Representative Council Speaker Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin, and Chair of House Commission IV Siti Hediati Hariyadi, also known as Titiek Soeharto. Afterwards, Prabowo proceeded to his prepared seat on the main stage. He was seen sitting next to Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. Indonesian Military Commander General Agus Subiyanto was also seen seated in line with Prabowo. Several members of the Red and White Cabinet attended the event, including Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno, Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar, and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia.
