JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto and Prime Minister (PM) of Japan Sanae Takaichi have agreed to maintain world peace and are ready to become mediators in global conflicts.

“We agree that both Japan and Indonesia will strive hard to convince all parties to carry out de-escalation. And we are also ready to become mediators if necessary and to facilitate de-escalation efforts and directions towards peace,” said Prabowo in a Kompas TV broadcast on Tuesday (31/3/2026).

The agreement was conveyed during a bilateral meeting held at the Akasaka Palace, Tokyo, Japan, today.

The close relationship between Indonesia and Japan serves as a concrete example of collaboration capable of maintaining regional stability.

“We are very concerned about this situation, and amid this uncertainty, the good cooperative relationship between Indonesia and Japan is an example of collaboration that leads to and ensures stability and peace in our region,” he stated.

The Head of State also expressed appreciation for various supports from Japan in Indonesia’s economic development.

“We are very grateful that our young people have been given many opportunities to study in Japan in all fields, and also many of our workers are allowed to intern in Japan,” said Prabowo.

Previously, at the beginning of their joint press statement, Prabowo also expressed appreciation for the warm welcome from the Japanese Government during his official visit.

He expressed thanks for the opportunity to meet with the Emperor of Japan, and reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening the long-standing bilateral relations.

“I am also very grateful; yesterday I was received by His Majesty Emperor Naruhito, and once again I reaffirm our commitment to strengthen the relationship between Japan and Indonesia, which has indeed been running for a long time and running very well,” he emphasised.
