President Prabowo Subianto has announced a series of agreements with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi following their meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. The cooperation spans political coordination, counter-terrorism, and the development of new technologies, including nuclear power.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday (7/7/2026), Prabowo described the talks as intensive and forward-looking, focusing on strategic issues of mutual interest. Both nations agreed to strengthen their partnership through more frequent high-level visits and closer inter-agency collaboration, including between think tanks and newly formed parliamentary friendship groups.

On security, the two leaders committed to deepening cooperation against terrorism. They also agreed to enhance maritime security collaboration through the third Indonesia-India Security Dialogue. Prabowo expressed support for improving connectivity by developing ports in India’s Andaman and Nicobar Islands, while India encouraged the development of Sabang Port in Aceh as a strategic link between the two regions.

Economic cooperation was highlighted as a key pillar of the bilateral relationship. Both countries pledged to boost trade by accelerating discussions on the Indonesia-India Preferential Trade Agreement and reviewing the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA). A major outcome was the agreement to establish a QR-based cross-border payment system, which Prabowo said would increase transaction efficiency and strengthen the financial sectors of both nations.

In the energy sector, the two leaders agreed to enhance cooperation on energy security, including the development of solar power projects and the exchange of technology and capacity in the nuclear field. Prabowo also noted a commitment to deepening health sector cooperation, expressing hope that it would create more opportunities to build the capacity of Indonesian doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
