Prabowo and Gibran's Sacrificial Cows Steal the Spotlight at Istiqlal Mosque's Rear Courtyard

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — The sacrificial cows belonging to President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka drew crowds after the Eid al-Adha prayers on Wednesday (27 May 2026) at Istiqlal Mosque in Central Jakarta. Crowds gathered to view and take close-up photos of President Prabowo’s 1.3-tonne and Vice President Gibran’s 1.2-tonne cows. The cattle stood on paving blocks, with elephant grass and drinking water provided around the area for the sacrificial animals. Meanwhile, Vice President Gibran’s cow wore a bell necklace around its neck. One resident, Tia, said this was her second time attending Eid al-Adha prayers at Istiqlal Mosque. She admitted she always makes time to see the President and Vice President’s cattle. “The cows are huge—I’m a bit scared, but curious. I’ve been here twice,” Tia said during an interview at the mosque on Wednesday. She explained she had taken photos with both animals, which she described as extremely large. “I came from West Jakarta with a friend and took photos of the cows,” Tia added. Unlike Tia, Ekky was attending Eid prayers at Istiqlal for the first time and seeing the leaders’ cattle. Ekky arrived with his wife and child. After prayers, he immediately headed to the mosque’s rear courtyard to show the sacrificial cows to his son. “Kids love animals, right? Honestly, I didn’t even know these were the President’s and Vice President’s cattle earlier,” Ekky said. “They’re massive. Quite stylish too—like they’ve got a hairstyle, and they’re even blonde. Really impressive. It made a big impression on my son,” Ekky joked.
