Prabowo and Gibran's Sacrificial Cows Among Largest at Istiqlal Mosque, Drawing Crowds for Photos
The 1.3-tonne cow donated by President Prabowo Subianto and a 1.2-tonne cow from Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka were the largest received by Istiqlal Mosque for the 2026 Idul Adha (1447 Hijriah) sacrifices. Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar confirmed this at the mosque in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. The two cows drew attention from worshippers attending Idul Adha prayers at Istiqlal Mosque. Although both were brown, they had distinct features. President Prabowo’s cow had a white patch on its head, while Vice President Gibran’s cow wore a bell necklace around its neck. A Jakarta West resident named Tia said she had visited twice to see the President’s and Vice President’s cows. Accompanied by friends, Tia also took photos with the two largest cows at the mosque. ‘I’m from West Jakarta with friends; I took photos with the cows,’ she said. Meanwhile, another resident, Ekky, said it was his first time attending Idul Adha prayers at Istiqlal Mosque. He came with his wife and child, then immediately went to the mosque’s backyard to see the cows. Ekky joked about the cows’ appearance, describing them as stylish. ‘They’re huge. And quite stylish, actually. They’ve got a hairstyle, and even blonde. But it’s impressive. Really memorable for kids,’ he said.
