Prabowo and Gibran Attend KSTI 2026 National Symposium at JCC

President Prabowo Subianto attended the National Symposium as part of the 2026 Indonesian Science, Technology, and Industry Convention (KSTI) series. The symposium was held as a discussion space between the government, universities, and stakeholders to address priority issues related to economic independence and public welfare. The event took place at the Jakarta Convention Centre (JCC) in Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday (26/6/2026), and was attended by 2,600 rectors, deans, and lecturers from public and private universities across Indonesia. Prabowo arrived at the venue at 16.00 WIB, wearing his signature khaki safari suit, and was immediately seated. Vice President Gibran Rakabuming was also seen accompanying Prabowo, along with Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, and Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto. Brian stressed that higher education, science, technology, research, and innovation must serve as an important foundation in supporting public policy. According to him, various national strategic agendas require robust studies so that the resulting policies are more targeted and provide tangible benefits to the community. “Through this National Symposium, we want to encourage campuses, in collaboration with the government and industry, to play a greater role in producing research and innovation that addresses real problems in seven priority development areas,” Brian said in a written statement. He added that the results of university research and innovation must be felt socially and economically by the surrounding community. When every university is able to provide solutions for its region, the foundation for national independence and welfare can be realised. Brian also emphasised that economic independence cannot be built sectorally, but rather through the interconnection of various fields, from the economy, food, energy, industry, and maritime affairs, to education. Therefore, this forum is needed to gather data-based and scientific input to support more integrated policymaking. The KSTI 2026 National Symposium discussed seven focus areas that are an important part of efforts to strengthen Indonesia’s economic independence and welfare, namely economy and finance, agriculture, energy, downstream processing and industry, maritime affairs and fisheries, food security, and education. “We hope that each symposium session can produce three important outcomes: objective and data-based issue mapping, substantive and realistic policy recommendations, and a clear collaboration agenda between the government, universities, industry, regional governments, and the community,” Brian said.
