Prabowo and el-Sisi reaffirm support for Gaza reconstruction
Indonesia and Egypt have agreed to continue contributing to the peace process and to provide immediate humanitarian assistance to Palestinians, including the recovery and reconstruction of Gaza.
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi agreed to continue supporting the recovery and reconstruction of Gaza, while promoting peace and the establishment of a Palestinian state.
“Indonesia and Egypt have agreed to continue contributing to the peace process and to provide immediate humanitarian assistance to Palestinians, including the recovery and reconstruction of Gaza,” Prabowo said in a joint statement at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Sunday.
Prabowo said the two countries were committed to pursuing a peaceful resolution to the Palestinian conflict and supporting efforts to ease tensions in the Middle East.
During the meeting, the two leaders also exchanged views on global and regional issues and stressed the importance of coordination, consultation and cooperation in responding to international developments.
“We are both deeply concerned by the violence, violations of international law, Israeli military operations, provocative actions, human rights abuses and excessive use of force that have resulted in civilian casualties,” Prabowo said.
Prabowo also condemned Israel’s construction of illegal settlements, which he said was worsening the situation in the region. He stressed that a two-state solution was the way to achieve peace.
On the situation in the Middle East, Prabowo said Indonesia and Egypt were concerned about the escalation of conflict, which threatened civilian safety and regional stability.
“We continue to call for de-escalation, restraint, and respect for sovereignty and international law in accordance with the UN Charter, while emphasising the importance of dialogue and diplomacy,” Prabowo said.
