Prabowo and Albanese Discuss Indonesia's Urea Export to Australia
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto received a telephone call from Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to discuss the approval of Indonesia’s urea fertiliser export to Australia amounting to 250,000 tonnes in the initial phase as part of strengthening trade cooperation. “In that communication, PM Albanese expressed appreciation for the President’s approval regarding the export of Indonesian urea fertiliser to Australia amounting to 250,000 tonnes in the first stage,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya in Jakarta on Tuesday. Besides Australia, the Indonesian government also plans to export urea fertiliser to several other countries such as India, the Philippines, Thailand, and Brazil. The total commitment for urea fertiliser exports reaches approximately one million tonnes, which is part of efforts to expand the global market for national fertiliser products. Based on data from the Minister of Agriculture, the total national urea production is recorded at 7.8 million tonnes, while domestic needs are around 6.3 million tonnes. With that production surplus, the government assesses that exports can still be carried out without disrupting the availability of fertiliser domestically. “This step is expected to continue to maintain domestic supply resilience while strengthening Indonesia’s contribution to the global market,” said Teddy. In addition, this policy also forms part of the government’s strategy to increase the added value of the fertiliser industry sector and expand economic cooperation with various partner countries.
