Prabowo Allocates Rp4 Trillion for Guard Posts and Flyovers at 1,800 Railway Crossings

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - President Prabowo Subianto has instructed his subordinates to repair railway crossings, including building guard posts and flyovers at level crossings on railway lines. There are 1,800 points to be improved in the Java region.

“I have ordered that we will repair all those crossings, whether by establishing guard posts or flyovers. We will appoint the implementers later. We estimate it will cost nearly Rp4 trillion for safety,” Prabowo told reporters at the Bekasi City Hospital, Tuesday (28/4/2026).

Prabowo noted that many level crossings on railways have not been maintained for decades. This commitment to improvements is expected to enhance safety in rail transportation.

It should be noted that these repairs will also cover level crossings in Bekasi City, particularly at the site of the collision between the Agro Bromo Anggrek train and the KRL Commuter Line last night.

“The Bekasi regional government has proposed building a flyover because Bekasi is densely populated, and the railway needs are very important and urgent. So I have approved the construction of a flyover directly with presidential assistance,” he said.

Prabowo stated that he will conduct an investigation into the accident. However, in general, the head of state sees that many railway crossings are not guarded by personnel.

As is known, the accident between the Argo Bromo Anggrek train and the KRL Commuter Line occurred at Bekasi Timur Station, Bekasi City, West Java, on Monday (27/4/2025), around 20:55 WIB. This incident resulted in seven people dead and dozens injured due to the collision.

On the same occasion, there was another incident on that line, where a KRL hit a taxi at a crossing near Bekasi Timur Station. This is believed to have triggered a series of disruptions leading to the collision.
