Prabowo Allocates Rp4 Trillion for Flyover Construction and Railway Crossing Improvements

President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, will allocate a budget of around Rp4 trillion to build flyovers and repair thousands of level railway crossings following the collision incident between the Argo Bromo train and a KRL at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday (27/4). This initiative was announced directly by the President after inspecting the condition of dozens of accident victims being treated at Bekasi City General Hospital dr. Chasbullah Abdulmadjid on Tuesday (28/4) morning. “So I have already approved the immediate construction of flyovers directly with presidential assistance,” Prabowo stated at Bekasi City General Hospital dr. Chasbullah Abdulmadjid on Tuesday (28/4). Prabowo then expressed condolences while assuring that the authorities would thoroughly investigate the tragic incident. “Today I came to the hospital in Bekasi. Of course, we are all saddened and shocked by the accident that has occurred. I extend my condolences on a personal level and on behalf of the regional government. We will immediately conduct an investigation into how the incident happened,” Prabowo said. According to Prabowo, the high safety risks to the public stem from the many railway crossings that are left unguarded. “But in general, we note that many of these railway crossings are not guarded, many are not guarded. We will address this immediately,” Prabowo stated. Not limited to Bekasi, these safety infrastructure improvements will also be executed on a massive scale at 1,800 vulnerable points along Java’s rail lines, which are claimed to have not been addressed since the colonial era. To ensure public mobility safety, the government is prepared to disburse trillions of rupiah to execute the project. “Now is the time, we will complete all of that immediately. I have ordered that we will repair all those crossings, whether by setting up guard posts or by building flyovers,” Prabowo said. “We will appoint the implementers; let’s calculate it at around almost Rp4 trillion. For safety and because it is very important, we really need the railway, so we must allocate that,” he added. During the visit, Prabowo also assured that around 54 accident victims have been handled maximally by medical personnel, with some victims suffering minor injuries already permitted to go home. “Some have been returned, some have been taken care of. In short, everything has been handled,” Prabowo said. Regarding compensation, he guaranteed that all victims affected by this incident will receive assistance from the government. “There will be compensation for everyone,” he stated.
