Prabowo Allocates Rp 500 Trillion for Social Protection of the Public This Year

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has allocated a budget of Rp 500 trillion to provide social protection for the public in 2026.

Prabowo announced this during a speech at the May Day commemoration event at Monas Square, Jakarta, on Friday (1/5/2026).

“Brothers and sisters, we are also providing very significant social protection. This year, we are providing protection for low-income citizens amounting to Rp 500 trillion,” stated Prabowo, in front of the workers at the location, on Friday.

Prabowo also outlined several government programmes, including Free Nutritious Meals (MBG).

This is because Prabowo said that many Indonesian children suffer from malnutrition.

“MBG is very important for our children. Brothers and sisters, many of our children are malnourished. Their bodies are small, their cells do not develop,” he said.

According to Prabowo, MBG will also stimulate economic circulation in society, including for farmers.

“Our economy will come alive, our farmers will earn income, brothers and sisters. This money will circulate, Indonesia will become stronger, Indonesia will become more prosperous, brothers and sisters,” he stated.

In addition, Prabowo highlighted the housing development programme.

“We will strive to build one million houses as soon as possible. This will also create a lot of jobs. Imagine, one house requires five people to work. That means every year we could create millions of jobs,” he said.
