Prabowo: All State Apparatus Must Be Ready to Die for the People, Not Oppress Them
President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, affirmed that all state apparatus, both the military (TNI) and the police (Polri), must be prepared to die to defend the interests of the people, not to oppress the community.
He conveyed this during the inauguration of the Marsinah Museum in Nganjuk, East Java, on Saturday (16/5). Prabowo initially mentioned the Marsinah murder case from decades ago. Prabowo said that he was young when the incident occurred.
“At that time, I was young, I heard about the incident in East Java, but I didn’t delve into it. Finally, today I only realized, only understood, collusion, the apparatus was used by certain capitalists,” said Prabowo.
“And this culture must not be continued. All apparatus, from the highest to the lowest, must be ready to die for the people, not to oppress the people,” he continued.
Prabowo then asked that in the future, he does not want to receive reports of law enforcement officers who instead do not uphold truth and justice.
“I don’t want to hear anymore, Commander of the TNI, Chief of Police, I don’t want to hear anymore about officers who do not uphold the law, justice and truth, it is not allowed to support various things. Our country is rich, we must secure this wealth for the greatest prosperity of the people,” he said.
Previously, Prabowo had also asked all law enforcement officers, including the TNI, Polri and the prosecutor’s office, not to abuse their authority by becoming backers of illegal activities.
“All other apparatus must also improve themselves, the prosecutor’s office, the police, the military must correct themselves, must eliminate irregularities and corruption from within each of them,” said Prabowo.
“I repeat, all apparatus must improve themselves, must cleanse themselves, must be brave to correct, don’t let the apparatus be behind irregularities, the apparatus backing irregularities, the apparatus backing smuggling, backing drugs, backing gambling, backing this illegal activity, that illegal activity, it must not be like that,” he continued.
Prabowo said he conveyed this on behalf of the Indonesian people. Therefore, he asked law enforcement officers to dedicate themselves to the Indonesian people.
“Be soldiers of the people, be police officers of the people who are loved by the people, and this has been pioneered by the leadership of the TNI and the police, I see,” he said.
