Prabowo Aims to Cut Hajj Queue to 26 Years from 40
The Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Hajj Monitoring Team, Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, has revealed President Prabowo Subianto’s aspirations for Indonesia’s hajj management, specifically regarding the waiting period for pilgrims. Prabowo wants to cut the hajj queue to 26 years. Cucun also conveyed Prabowo’s satisfaction with the 2026 hajj operations.
“His concern, which we greatly appreciate, is how the queue, which was previously almost 35 to 40 years, can be reduced to around 26 years,” Cucun told reporters in Hambalang, West Java, on Wednesday, 17 June 2026.
He explained that President Prabowo is not only targeting a reduction in the waiting time to 26 years but has also instructed his staff to find schemes that could shorten the hajj waiting period even further. “He even said earlier, if possible, please make it faster, what would the scheme be if the queue were not so long,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the House’s Hajj Monitoring Team presented the results of its oversight of the 2026 hajj operations. One highlighted achievement was the reduction in hajj costs over the last two years, which is considered to have helped around 240,000 prospective pilgrims. “Alhamdulillah, we reported on the monitoring from the departure phase, even from the working committee’s decision on hajj costs, which have decreased over the past two years. This affects 240,000 people who have genuinely wanted to perform the hajj pilgrimage for many years,” he added.
According to Cucun, the government, through the Ministry of Hajj, will subsequently examine various options and schemes to expedite the departure of prospective pilgrims so that the current decades-long waiting period can be continuously reduced. “The hope is that members of the public who have been waiting for years can get the opportunity to perform the hajj pilgrimage sooner,” he concluded.
