Prabowo Agrees with Japanese PM Sanae on Supporting Independent Palestine
President Prabowo Subianto held a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi during his official visit to Tokyo a few days ago. PM Sanae stated that she agrees with Prabowo regarding support for Palestinian independence.
This was conveyed by PM Sanae on her official Instagram account, viewed on Thursday (2 April 2026). PM Sanae initially explained that the meeting resulted in bilateral agreements to enhance cooperation in the economic and security sectors.
“In particular, we confirmed that we will further promote economic cooperation leveraging Japan’s strengths such as trade and investment, AZEC (Asia Zero Emission Community), energy, AI, disaster prevention, fisheries, critical minerals, etc.,” said Sanae.
“Security cooperation includes OSA (support for strengthening government security capacity), maritime security and defence cooperation, and cooperation in developing industrial talent,” she added.
Sanae stated that the two heads of state also discussed the heated situation in the Middle East conflict zone due to the US-Israel and Iran war. She also emphasised support for Palestinian independence.
“We discussed the situation in the Middle East, and I think it is a remarkable achievement that we could agree with President Prabowo to ‘collaborate and respond to the initial calm of the situation’. I will also support the Palestinian state,” she said.
It is known that Prabowo made his first official visit to Japan from 29 to 31 March 2026. Prabowo began the visit by meeting Emperor Naruhito at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on 30 March. This was followed by a meeting with the Japanese PM at the Akasaka Palace on 31 March.
