Prabowo Affirms Regional Stability as Shared Interest for Indonesia and Singapore

President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has stressed that stability and prosperity are shared interests that Indonesia and Singapore must safeguard through ongoing cooperation in the Southeast Asian region. “As close neighbours, Indonesia and Singapore have become close partners. We have shared interests because we are in the same region, so stability and prosperity are our common interests,” President Prabowo said during a joint press statement with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday. The President explained that prosperity in any region cannot be achieved without a solid foundation of peace and stability. Therefore, efforts to maintain regional peace are seen as a continuous process that must be pursued relentlessly for the benefit of both parties. Prabowo also assured the Singaporean delegation of his personal and institutional commitment to maintaining this bilateral relationship over the long term. “Indonesia’s stance and my personal stance, and for a long time, I think I have proven it over several decades. Personally, my commitment and my belief are that Singapore and Indonesia must be good partners, with good cooperation,” Prabowo stated. He conveyed that the strong synergy between Indonesia and Singapore not only provides positive benefits in meeting the needs of the people in both neighbouring countries. Furthermore, this strategic collaboration is projected to make a significant contribution to strengthening global economic growth and security stability across the entire Southeast Asian region. The 2026 Leaders’ Retreat also serves as a crucial momentum, considering both countries are preparing to commemorate the 60th anniversary of official diplomatic relations in 2027.
