JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto has affirmed that Indonesia and Japan will endeavour to convince all parties to engage in de-escalation amid the current global dynamics and conflicts.

Prabowo made this statement in the presence of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi during his visit to Japan on Tuesday (31/3/2026).

“Dear colleagues, my visit to Japan comes at a time when the world is full of challenges, uncertainties, and even dangers,” said Prabowo, quoted from Kompas TV.

“We agree that both Japan and Indonesia will work hard to persuade all parties to de-escalate,” Prabowo continued.

“And we are prepared to serve as mediators if necessary and to facilitate de-escalation efforts towards peace,” he stated.

On that occasion, Prabowo expressed deep concern about the situation.

Prabowo then reaffirmed the good relations between Indonesia and Japan.

“And amid these uncertainties, the good relations and cooperation between Indonesia and Japan serve as an example of collaboration that leads to and ensures stability and peace in our region,” he said.

Several Indonesian ministers accompanied Prabowo in Japan, including Foreign Minister Sugiono, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, CEO of Danantara Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
