Prabowo Affirms Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution to Prevent Monopoly of State Wealth

President Prabowo Subianto has stressed that the implementation of Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia aims to prevent the control of national wealth by a select few and to ensure that the fruits of development are enjoyed by all the people. “We are implementing Article 33. The economy shall be organised as a common endeavour based upon the principle of familyhood. This should not be considered a mere slogan or beautiful rhetoric,” Prabowo said while chairing a Plenary Cabinet Session at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday. The President stated that the principle of familyhood in Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution implies that all Indonesian people are part of a large national family that must benefit from economic development. According to him, this principle also serves as the foundation to prevent inequality in the control of national resources. “No single element or party should be allowed to oppress another. No single element should be allowed to monopolise the nation’s wealth so that others cannot enjoy it,” Prabowo said. He asserted that branches of production which are important for the state and which affect the lives of many people must be controlled by the state, as mandated by the constitution. He also emphasised that the land, waters, and natural resources of Indonesia must be utilised for the greatest possible benefit of the people. The President stated that the government is currently implementing economic policies based on the mandate of the 1945 Constitution and the values of Pancasila economics, which prioritise social justice. The mid-year plenary cabinet session was held as an evaluation forum for the implementation of the Red and White Cabinet’s programmes ahead of the President’s state address on 16 August 2026.
