President Prabowo Subianto has admitted he was shocked and saddened to discover the extent of national wealth that has been lost over the decades since Indonesia’s independence. He stated that these losses stemmed from long-standing deviations that were allowed to persist.

“After we have been independent for so many decades, especially after I became President, I looked at the data and the facts, and I feel that there have actually been many deviations that we have simply allowed to happen,” Prabowo said during the closing ceremony of the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) National Conference of Religious Scholars and Grand Conference at the IAI Syaichona Mohammad Cholil in Bangkalan Regency, East Java, on Tuesday.

“These deviations, in my conviction, are what have brought our nation to its current state, where we must admit that too much of the state’s wealth has been lost, taken from the rights of the people, the rights of the nation,” he continued.

Prabowo expressed his sorrow that the nation’s wealth had not been enjoyed for the benefit of the country. He acknowledged this as a collective negligence. “Ladies and gentlemen, I have only been leading this government for about 18 months, and I am shocked, taken aback, and saddened to see how much of our wealth has disappeared over this time. We are not looking to place blame; let us consider this our shared negligence,” he said.

The President then affirmed his commitment to protecting the state’s wealth for the people’s welfare during his leadership. “But I have taken an oath to safeguard the interests of the nation and the people. Therefore, I must do the best I can so that I do not break my oath to the nation and the people,” Prabowo stated.
