Prabowo admits MBG still has many shortcomings: We have closed over 3,000 kitchens

Ladies and gentlemen, we acknowledge that there are still many shortcomings in the management of MBG. We have closed more than 3,000 kitchens,” Prabowo said in a plenary session at the DPR/MPR building, Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.

Prabowo urged officials to report if any problems are found. He assured that he would take action.

“I have asked the officials and I invite members of the DPR, regents, everywhere, please inspect all the kitchens. If there is anything not in order, report it immediately; we will take swift action. Ladies and gentlemen, we will not allow problems this important to be handled wrongly,” he said.

Furthermore, Prabowo disclosed that MBG has already reached 62.4 million beneficiaries, including breastfeeding mothers, pregnant women, and the elderly.

“Free nutritious meals are now enjoyed by 62.4 million recipients every day. The figure includes 6.3 million under-five children, 2 million breastfeeding mothers, and 868,000 pregnant women receiving MBG daily,” he stated.

“We will also provide MBG to 500,000 elderly people who live alone and are in need of nutritious meals,” he added.

Prabowo said this is part of the implementation of the Constitution, Article 34, which regulates social welfare guarantees, community empowerment, and state responsibility.

“And why? Because it is the mandate of the 1945 Constitution, Articles 33 and 34, that the poor must be cared for by the state,” he said.
