Prabowo: Abadi Masela LNG Investment Supports Indonesia's Development

President Prabowo Subianto has stated that the US$20.9 billion Abadi Masela LNG National Strategic Project (PSN) investment will help Indonesia carry out development towards becoming an industrialised nation. “This project’s investment is very large, US$20.9 billion, almost US$21 billion. It will produce more than 9 million tonnes of gas, condensate, and so on, so this will greatly assist the Indonesian nation in carrying out development,” Prabowo said while officiating the project’s groundbreaking virtually from the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday. Prabowo said Indonesia needs an adequate energy supply to accelerate economic transformation through downstreaming and industrialisation. According to Prabowo, energy sector development is the foundation for realising Indonesia as a modern and productive country capable of producing various industrial products. “We are determined to become an industrialised country, a modern country, and we are determined that our people must live well, live decently,” he said. He explained that the results of development and natural resource management are needed to finance various government programmes, ranging from health services and education to infrastructure development. “We need money to provide the best health services, we need money to pay teachers’ salaries so that our schools are not inferior to schools abroad,” Prabowo said. The President assessed that strategic projects like LNG Abadi Masela play an important role in supporting national economic transformation while improving public welfare. The Abadi Masela LNG project is developed by INPEX Masela Ltd. together with Pertamina and Petronas. In addition to having a production capacity of 9.5 million tonnes of LNG per year, the project is also designed to channel 150 MMSCFD of domestic piped gas and produce approximately 35,000 barrels of condensate per day to support national energy security.
