Prabowo: Abadi Masela LNG a crucial project awaited for three decades

President Prabowo Subianto has stated that the Abadi Masela LNG National Strategic Project (PSN) is a crucial project that has been awaited for almost three decades before finally entering the construction phase. “The Abadi Masela national strategic project is a truly very important project. We have waited for this project for almost three decades, three dasawarsa. Alhamdulillah, today we begin construction,” said Prabowo while officiating the project’s groundbreaking virtually from the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday. The President stressed that the project’s construction must proceed according to target so that it can immediately provide benefits for the community and support national energy security. “And the construction must not be hampered. It must be completed in the shortest possible time,” he said. Prabowo said Indonesia is blessed with abundant energy resources that need to be utilised to strengthen the nation’s future. According to him, one proof of this great potential is the existence of energy reserves in the Tanimbar region, Maluku, which have been known for decades. “The proof, among others, is that we already understand that in our waters in Tanimbar, Maluku, we have very large energy reserves. We have been aware of this for 28 years,” said Prabowo. He also expressed appreciation to all parties involved in the project’s development, including partners from Japan through INPEX, Petronas from Malaysia, and Pertamina as the national energy company working together to realise the project. The Abadi Masela LNG project has an investment value of approximately US$20.9 billion and is being developed by INPEX Masela Ltd. together with Pertamina and Petronas. The government projects that this development will become one of the largest energy industry centres in eastern Indonesia while strengthening national energy security, expanding employment opportunities, and promoting equitable development in the eastern region.
