Prabowo: A Country as Large as Ours Must Be Energy Independent to Survive!
JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto emphasised that a country as large as Indonesia must be independent in managing its most fundamental natural resources. Energy is one of them.
“A country as large as ours, if it still wants to be independent, if it still wants to survive and stay alive, like it or not, we must be self-reliant. And energy is one of the fields that is very determining,” said Prabowo during the inauguration of the electric bus and truck vehicle factory of PT Vektor Sakti Industri (PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk) in Magelang, Central Java, on Thursday (9/4/2026).
In addition to energy, Indonesia needs to be independent in the food sector. He expressed gratitude that Indonesia is now able to declare itself successful in achieving rice self-sufficiency and several other commodities.
“Alhamdulillah, due to good cooperation among many parties, we are already self-reliant in the food sector. We are relatively self-sufficient. There might be a few more commodities, but the main point is that we are no longer afraid of food issues. What is important now is equitable distribution,” said Prabowo.
According to Prabowo, industrialisation is the final stage of a nation’s technological revival. Technology must be processed into industry so that it benefits a nation.
“Towards clean energy, renewable energy. One step is to use electricity, electrification, using electricity so as not to use too much fossil BBM, from carbon,” he explained.
Through this programme, his side will gradually stop the use of solar or diesel power plants.
“And in a short while, we will open processing centres, refineries for this. We will invest massively in that field,” explained Prabowo.
