Prabowo: A Country as Large as Ours, If It Still Wants to Be Independent, Must Be Self-Reliant!

President Prabowo Subianto has emphasised that Indonesia is a large nation with strong resources. Therefore, he stressed that Indonesia must be self-reliant if it wishes to endure global economic crises.

This was stated by President Prabowo during the inauguration of the electric commercial vehicle assembly plant owned by PT VKTR Mobilitas Teknologi Tbk in Magelang, Central Java, on Thursday, 9 April 2026.

“A country as large as ours, if it still wants to be independent, if it still wants to survive and stay alive, like it or not, we must be self-reliant, and energy is one of the fields that is very determining,” said Prabowo.

Prabowo acknowledged that the energy and food sectors are among the sources of a nation’s strength. He is optimistic that Indonesia has established good cooperative relations with many parties to achieve food self-sufficiency.

“We realise that now every nation must be self-reliant in the most determining fields. Namely, among others, the most primary is certainly food, after that energy,” said Prabowo.

“Alhamdulillah, due to good cooperation among many parties, we are already self-reliant in food, relatively self-sufficient, there may be a few more commodities, but the main point is we are no longer afraid of food issues,” he continued.

In addition, Prabowo wants no one in Indonesian society to go hungry. The homeland is considered to have many resources that can be utilised amid the global crisis.

However, he asked all of society to remain vigilant in facing challenges in the coming months.

“In the energy sector, we are very rich, we have so many sources. So, amid the world crisis where many countries are anxious, we must be vigilant, but we are optimistic we will face the challenges in the coming months,” said Prabowo.
