Prabowo: 145 Fertiliser Regulations Slashed, Prices Drop 20%
President Prabowo Subianto has stated that during his administration, the government has slashed 145 regulations on subsidised fertiliser distribution and successfully reduced fertiliser prices by up to 20% for farmers across Indonesia. “This has happened for the first time in the history of the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia. For the first time, we have been able to lower fertiliser prices for the people,” Prabowo said during the Annual Session of the MPR-DPR RI on Friday (14/8). At the same time, Prabowo conveyed that the volume of subsidised fertiliser availability has actually increased whilst the government lowered subsidised fertiliser prices. “So our people can now easily obtain fertiliser. And because of that, production has increased, and because of that, we are also achieving food self-sufficiency faster,” Prabowo explained. In addition, Prabowo also mentioned that the profits of PT Pupuk Indonesia experienced an increase of up to 252.8%. Prabowo emphasised that this was the result of the hard work of Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman and agricultural extension workers, supported by other ministries and agencies, local governments, the TNI, and the Polri. “With the spirit of mutual cooperation, we have achieved a feat recognised by the world. Therefore, this year we have achieved self-sufficiency in eight food commodities, namely self-sufficiency in rice, maize, consumption sugar, chicken meat, chicken eggs, shallots, large chillies, and bird’s eye chillies,” he concluded.
