PR industry faces tough future
YOGYAKARTA: An integrated program for public relations people was needed in a bid to meet the future challenge of the growing tourism industry in the country, a top practitioner said here.
Magdalena Wenas, CEO of MPR Consultant, said the program must involve all stakeholders in the tourism industry and must be launched nationwide simultaneously in areas where tourism has become part of regional revenue sources.
She also reminded the audience of the complexity of the PR task today in which the public was so diverse, and competition in almost all sectors of the industry was extremely tight.
Magdalena was speaking at a talk show on public relations and the tourism industry at Saphir Yogyakarta Hotel.
Friday's event was jointly organized by the Association of Yogyakarta Public Relations Officers (K-Purel Jogja), Jogjakarta Plaza Hotel, Saphir Yogyakarta Hotel and Gadjah Mada University Jogja Tourism Training Center (JTTC).
Also speaking at the discussion was The Jakarta Post's business manager and head of advertising Christian Tooy. --JP
