The Narcotics Unit of the Penajam Paser Utara (PPU) Police, East Kalimantan, has arrested seven drug trafficking suspects following the disclosure of six cases during the period of May 2026, securing a gross weight of 62.35 grams of crystal methamphetamine as evidence. This was detailed by PPU Deputy Police Chief Kompol Roganda, accompanied by Criminal Investigation Head AKP Hendry Dwi Azhari, Narcotics Head Iptu Gede Wijaya, and PPU Police Public Relations Head AIPDA Syafruddin, during a press conference on Thursday (4/6/2026) regarding the disclosure of drug and criminal cases within the PPU Police jurisdiction. “These disclosures are the result of a series of investigations across the PPU Police jurisdiction during the month of May 2026,” he stated. From the six police reports, he continued, four cases occurred in Penajam District, one case in Sepaku District, and one case in Babulu District. “All the suspects are male with diverse occupational backgrounds, ranging from casual daily labourers, self-employed individuals, private employees, farmers, to fishermen. Four suspects are aged between 20 and 29 years, while the other three are above 30 years old,” he said. Based on the investigation results, the Deputy Police Chief elaborated that the perpetrators are suspected of acting as couriers and dealers with a distribution pattern targeting field workers, such as palm oil labourers and drivers. “Several cases also indicate the existence of cross-regional networks involving suppliers from outside PPU Regency,” he explained. The first case was uncovered at a crime scene in Babulu Darat, Babulu District, with a suspect identified by the initials S alias B. Officers confiscated 50.06 grams of methamphetamine packaged in several packs from the suspect. “The suspect claimed he was promised monetary compensation and had delivered methamphetamine out of the region several times, including to Paser Regency,” he said. For the second case, the crime scene was in Riko Village, Penajam District, involving suspect RA alias A with 4.22 grams of methamphetamine as evidence; the drugs were allegedly intended for retail distribution to field workers. “In the third case, located in Penajam, police secured suspect AAH and seized 4.84 grams of methamphetamine. The illicit substance was obtained from Balikpapan for redistribution in the PPU area,” he pointed out. The fourth case involved suspect HS at a crime scene on Jalan Panglima Betta, Penajam. The suspect acted as a courier and manager of methamphetamine orders with 0.45 grams seized as evidence. For the fifth case, the crime scene was in Sepaku District and involved two suspects, AA and H. They were dealers and couriers operating with a profit-sharing scheme and receiving narcotics consumption as compensation. A total of 2.48 grams of methamphetamine was confiscated from them. The last, sixth case, occurred in Lawe-Lawe Village, Penajam, with suspect FWW and 0.30 grams of methamphetamine intended for personal use. He stressed that the police are still developing these cases, including pursuing individuals on the wanted list suspected of being the main suppliers. He also appealed to the public to actively report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking to constrict the operating space of drug networks in the PPU region.
