STUDENTS at State Elementary School (SDN) 006 Penajam, Penajam Paser Utara Regency, East Kalimantan, were on Tuesday (19/5) provided with education on bullying prevention early on by the PPU Police through the Traffic Unit (Satlantas) under the ‘Polantas Menyapa’ programme. This is part of the force’s commitment to supporting character formation among the younger generation.

In the activity, the PPU Police Chief, AKBP Andreas Alek Danantara, via the Head of Lantas AKP Dedik I. Prasetyo, said that the students were given an understanding of the dangers associated with bullying or harassment, which can affect mental health, self-confidence and a child’s development in the school environment.

‘The number of participants reached dozens of pupils, and the activity was conducted in an atmosphere of camaraderie and teamwork, guided by Satlantas personnel Bripda Ridho, Bripda Firman and Bripda Agung,’ he noted.

He added that through an interactive and humane delivery method, the pupils were encouraged to understand the importance of mutual respect, courteous behaviour and building healthy and positive friendships.

‘This activity represents POLRI’s care for the education sector, as well as a preventive measure to curb bullying among pupils,’ Dedik said.

He stressed that the initiative aims to instil discipline, empathy, and mutual respect from an early age. Children must understand that bullying is not acceptable behaviour and can have adverse effects on their peers.

Beyond anti-bullying education, he said, Satlantas of the PPU Police also motivates pupils to stay disciplined, orderly and to report bullying when they see or experience it at school.

POLANTAS MENYAPA

He explained that the ‘Polantas Menyapa’ programme is one of the means by which the Police (POLRI) brings itself closer to the public, particularly pupils, through an educational and persuasive approach to foster a safe and secure kamtibmas and road safety environment.

He noted that the pupils’ enthusiasm was evident throughout the activity. They actively engaged, answered questions and followed instructions given by Satlantas personnel of the PPU Police.

‘We hope that, through this activity, a safe, friendly, child-friendly school environment free from bullying can be established, while also shaping a generation of young people with positive character, discipline and care for others,’ he concluded.
