PPRT Law Passed, Dasco States Social Security for Domestic Workers Will Be Regulated in Government Regulation

The Domestic Workers Protection Law (PPRT) was officially passed during a plenary session of the House of Representatives (DPR). Deputy Speaker of the DPR, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, emphasised that social security for domestic workers (PRT) will be regulated in a government regulation (PP).

“(Social security) will be addressed in the PP, as there will be a PP, it will be regulated in the PP,” Dasco told reporters after the plenary session at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (21/4/2026).

Dasco also mentioned that social security could potentially be covered by the state. The daily chairman of the Gerindra Party stated that his side would propose this concept to the government.

“Yes, we will try to propose it, so that it can be regulated in the PP,” he said.

As is known, the PPRT Law was officially passed by the DPR into law after discussions spanning 22 years. This new norm will serve as the legal framework to protect domestic workers.

The passage of the PPRT Bill was led by DPR Speaker Puan Maharani, accompanied by Deputy Speakers Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, and Saan Mustopa.

The plenary session was attended by 314 out of 578 DPR members from all factions in the DPR. The passage began with a report on the deliberation of the PPRT Bill by the Head of the PPRT Bill Working Committee, who is also the Head of the DPR Legislation Body, Bob Hasan.

“It is now time for me to request the approval of the factions on the Domestic Workers Protection Bill. Can it be approved and passed into law?” Puan asked.

“Agreed,” the House members replied, accompanied by Puan’s gavel strike signalling the passage.
