PPRT Bill Targeted for Completion This Year

The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) has promised that the Bill on Protection for Domestic Workers (RUU PPRT) can be completed this year, according to Bob Hasan, the Chairman of the DPR’s Legislative Body (Baleg). ‘If this year is confirmed, yes. But I cannot estimate the month,’ he said in Jakarta on Thursday (5 March). To develop the RUU PPRT, Baleg said the DPR is seeking broad public participation to provide input so that the draft bill can be concluded quickly and move to the deliberation stage. Baleg DPR RI invited Komnas Perempuan, Yayasan Lembaga Bantuan Hukum Indonesia (YLBHI), Jaringan Nasional Advokasi Pekerja Rumah Tangga (Jala PRT), Jakarta Feminist, and the Serikat Pekerja Rumah Tangga (SPRT) to listen to aspirations and input in drafting the RUU PPRT. ‘Next,’ Bob said, ‘Baleg DPR RI will resume discussion on the RUU PPRT when the session period begins on 10 March 2026.’ After drafting the RUU PPRT, the DPR will hear the government’s views through the Ministry of Manpower as the agency handling the bill. ‘The opinions gathered will be incorporated into the substantive content,’ Bob Hasan explained. Separately, Lita Anggraini, National Coordinator of Jala PRT, argued that the RUU PPRT is urgent to be enacted promptly as protection and prevention of violence for domestic workers, noting that the RUU PPRT has been awaited for more than 20 years as a legal product.
