PPPK Workers in Tidore Protest Against Dismissal Threat

Contract-based government employees (PPPK) within the Tidore Kepulauan City Government, North Maluku, held a demonstration to protest against being laid off.

The protesters demanded that the City Government find a solution regarding their future. The demonstration took place in the courtyard of the Tidore Kepulauan Mayor’s Office on Monday (6/7) at approximately 08:30 WIT, involving both full-time and part-time PPPK staff.

“If we are laid off, what will happen to our bank loans? Because most of us have used our employment decrees (SK) as collateral at the bank; I personally have pledged my SK to a bank to fund the construction of my house,” said one PPPK employee, identified by the initials NY (35).

Responding to these grievances, the Mayor of Tidore Kepulauan, Muhammad Sinen, ultimately decided not to lay off the PPPK employees. However, he will implement a reduction in their income.

“The Additional Income Allowance (TTP) for Civil Servants (PNS) will be cut by 30 per cent, while the allowances for PPPK and part-time staff will be reduced further,” Muhammad Sinen told reporters.
