PPPK Workers in Tidore Protest Against Dismissal Threat

Masses of government contract workers (PPPK) within the Tidore Islands City Government, North Maluku, held a demonstration rejecting plans to send them home. They demanded the city government find a solution regarding their fate. The protest took place in the courtyard of the Tidore Islands Mayor’s Office on Monday (6/7) at around 08:30 WIT. The action was attended by all PPPK workers as well as part-time PPPK staff. “If we are sent home, what about our bank loans? Because most of us have already used our appointment decrees as collateral at the bank. I myself have used my decree as collateral to build a house,” said one PPPK worker, identified by the initials NY (35). Responding to the complaints, Tidore Islands Mayor Muhammad Sinen ultimately decided not to dismiss the PPPK workers. However, he stated that their income would be cut by half. “The additional income allowance for civil servants is cut by 30 percent. Meanwhile, the allowances for PPPK and part-time workers are being cut,” Muhammad Sinen told reporters.
