PPPK Tidore Protest Layoffs, DPR Urges Government to Disburse IDR 132 Trillion in Revenue Sharing Funds

Jakarta – Thousands of Government Employees with Work Agreements (PPPK) in Tidore, North Maluku, staged a demonstration rejecting plans to terminate their employment. Responding to the situation, the Chairman of the House of Representatives’ (DPR) Budget Committee, Said Abdullah, stated that regional fiscal conditions are currently under significant pressure. He urged the central government to intervene. The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) politician requested that the central government immediately disburse outstanding revenue sharing funds (DBH). “It would be better if the central government stepped in to discuss this with the regions. For example, the revenue sharing funds that have not been distributed should be disbursed immediately so that regions can breathe and are able to pay honorariums and salaries for PPPK workers,” Said stated at the Parliament Complex in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, 8 July 2026. “It was decided that the under-disbursed revenue sharing funds amounting to IDR 132 trillion be immediately disbursed to the regions.” According to him, the central government had previously committed to assisting regions experiencing fiscal difficulties. “The government has committed, for regions facing fiscal difficulties, the central government will step in. That was cleared up yesterday,” Said revealed. He expressed hope that the thousands of PPPK workers would not be laid off and could return to work without any reduction in their financial rights. For context, a mass gathering held by the Tidore City Government turned chaotic following information that thousands of PPPK workers would be laid off. A number of demonstrators from the PPPK group set fires. The Mayor of Tidore Islands, Muhammad Sinen, revealed that his administration is facing a budget deficit of IDR 50 billion. However, he promised not to lay off the PPPK workers. Instead, the Additional Employee Income (TTP) for State Civil Apparatus (ASN) and PPPK will be streamlined or cut by 30 percent.
