Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi has said that the employment status of Government Employees with Work Agreements (PPPK) working as teachers will be transferred to central government employees. He said the policy was an agreement reached in a meeting between the government and the House of Representatives (DPR RI). He also confirmed that the policy had taken fiscal conditions into account.

“We agreed together that the employment status will be transferred to central employees or central government employees,” Prasetyo said after a meeting with the DPR RI at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday (18/8/2026).

He said that teachers with part-time PPPK status would be appointed as full-time PPPK. Meanwhile, teachers currently holding full-time PPPK status will have the opportunity to take part in civil servant (PNS) selection in 2027.

According to him, the government is continuing to synchronise data related to teacher employment across the various statuses. He said resolving the teacher employment issue could not be done in isolation because various aspects had to be calculated.

In addition to the DPR RI, he said the central government also frequently received input from teacher associations.

“We are committed to continuing to seek a solution as quickly as possible,” he said.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa assured that the policy would not endanger fiscal sustainability. He said the government had carried out simulations of budget requirements for the coming years.

“So these steps are being taken without endangering our fiscal condition. In 2027 the deficit will still be maintained at 2.4 percent,” Purbaya said.
