PPP to punish dissidents

JAKARTA: United Development Party (PPP) leader Hamzah Haz met
with party officials on Tuesday to discuss possible punishments
for dissidents who met during the weekend.

The party's central board had banned members from attending a
series of informal talks that ended on Saturday with a demand for
reform within the party leadership and a new congress at the end
of this year at the latest.

Hamzah rejected the demands, but Irgan Chairul Mahniz, who
heads the party's youth wing, said Hamzah's rejection reflected
his personal opinions, not the party's official stance. -- Antara
