PPP splinter is OK: Hamzah

JAKARTA: The United Development Party (PPP) chairman Hamzah Haz, who is also the Vice President, responded lightly to the plan to establish a splinter group within his party, saying that if it is for the good of the party then it will be no problem.

PPP advisory council member Eggy Sudjana said on Thursday, after meeting Hamzah, that the Vice President considers that if the splinter has the same party vision it may even boost PPP's performance.

The group, which is reportedly supported by 13 PPP chapters throughout the country, has asked that the PPP central board revoke its decision to hold the chairmanship election after the 2004 general elections.

They have even produced a party symbol and flag that resembles PPP's and Zainuddin M.Z., a PPP executive of the NU faction, has been named as the leader of the splinter group to be called "PPP Reformasi". --JP
