PPP Leader Mardiono Opens Sumut Regional Congress, Urges Cadres to Support Government Programmes
General Chairman of the PPP Central Board, Muhammad Mardiono, conducted a working visit to North Sumatra Province on Sunday, 3 May 2026. The visit was in connection with the Launching of the PPP Branch Congress across North Sumatra.
In his opening remarks, Mardiono urged all PPP cadres in North Sumatra to work together with local government officials to ensure the success of the Indonesian government’s work programmes. “We are ready to join hands to produce work programmes for the people,” said Mardiono at Wisma Karina, Serdang Bedagai.
Mardiono also emphasised that PPP cadres should prioritise electoral work, not just spiritual aspects. “We will test the implementation of the branch congress across Indonesia again. Later, we will prove it when the regions submit the formulation of the congress results,” he said.
He added, “We often get trapped in unbalanced politics. We neglect electoral work but focus only on spiritual matters.”
The leadership of this party, symbolised by the Kaaba, also touched on the condition of PPP’s seat gains in North Sumatra, which have experienced a decline. Mardiono assessed that through consolidation and real work among the community, PPP can rise again and expand its political representation.
“With real work and presence among the people, InsyaAllah PPP can return to fighting for the people, through political programmes or government programmes,” Mardiono stated.
Meanwhile, Zulfikar, Head of the North Sumatra Political Unity and Public Protection Agency, hopes that the PPP Branch Congress across North Sumatra will serve as a momentum to strengthen the role of political parties. “Especially as strategic partners of the government in regional development,” he said, while also conveying a message from Bobby Nasution, Governor of North Sumatra.
The PPP Branch Congress across North Sumatra is planned to be held simultaneously in regencies and cities, but the opening was held in Serdang Bedagai as the host.
