PPP Chairman Highlights Provocative Statements That Could Fracture National Unity
National Information — Chairman of the United Development Party (PPP) Muhamad Mardiono has highlighted statements from several parties deemed unconstructive and potentially stirring unrest amid society.
The statements refer to narratives emerging at a Halal Bihalal forum titled “Before Observers Are Regulated” held in Utan Kayu, East Jakarta, on Tuesday, 31 March 2026, which claimed that the President would not complete his term until 2029.
According to Mardiono, who is also the President’s Special Envoy for Food Security, such statements are not only speculative but also risk creating political instability and disrupting public confidence in the current administration.
“As public figures, every statement should consider its broad impact on society. Narratives that veer towards delegitimising a legitimate government are highly inappropriate, especially if delivered without clear basis,” Mardiono stated on Tuesday, 7 April 2026.
He affirmed that President Prabowo Subianto is currently focused on running the government and restoring sovereignty to the people as mandated by the 1945 Constitution. “There is no reason not to support Father President Prabowo. He has noble aspirations to return sovereignty to the people for prosperity,” he stressed.
Furthermore, Mardiono reminded that the Indonesian nation is still in the Eid al-Fitr atmosphere, which should be interpreted as a moment to strengthen unity, tighten bonds of friendship, and bring coolness to national and state life. “In this month full of blessings, it is fitting that we present soothing narratives, not muddy the atmosphere with provocative and counterproductive statements,” he said.
He added that the government under President Prabowo’s leadership is working hard to face various challenges, from strengthening the national economy to global dynamics such as the energy crisis and geopolitical uncertainties.
“The government is striving maximally to strengthen economic foundations, improve public welfare, and maintain national stability. Therefore, all elements of the nation should provide support, not spread unfounded speculation,” he said.
Mardiono also invited all community leaders, academics, and observers to be wiser in expressing views in public spaces by prioritising ethics, responsibility, and the spirit of unity. “Differences of opinion are normal in democracy, but they must be conveyed constructively and responsibly to maintain the nation’s integrity.”
