Two Hajj pilgrims from East Kutai Regency (Kutim), East Kalimantan, died in the Holy Land of Mecca, Saudi Arabia, as reported by the Hajj Organising Committee (PPIH) during the welcome ceremony for returning pilgrims on Monday afternoon (15/6) at the Al-Faruq Grand Mosque, Bukit Pelangi Office Complex, North Sangatta District. Initially, a total of 172 pilgrims departed from East Kutai Regency, but due to the deaths, the number returning now stands at 170. The two pilgrims were buried in Mecca in accordance with the regulations in force.

The pilgrims were welcomed by their families and East Kutai Regent Ardiansyah Sulaiman, accompanied by East Kutai Police Chief AKBP Fauzan Arianto, members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), as well as several regional officials and community leaders. On the occasion, Ardiansyah expressed gratitude for the return of the pilgrims who had completed all the rituals in the Holy Land. He commended the pilgrims’ fortitude and patience during the challenging Hajj journey.

On behalf of the East Kutai Regency Government and the entire community, he welcomed the pilgrims home. He was grateful that all the rituals were performed well and that the pilgrims returned in good health. “May all the acts of worship that have been performed be accepted by Allah SWT and may they become a mabrur Hajj and mabruroh Hajjah,” he said. The Regent also conveyed his appreciation to all regional Hajj officers, health workers, and the committee who provided maximum service from departure to the return of the pilgrims.

Meanwhile, East Kutai Police Chief AKBP Fauzan Arianto also welcomed all the pilgrims who had returned to the homeland after performing the fifth pillar of Islam. “The extended family of the East Kutai Police welcomes all the Hajj pilgrims of East Kutai Regency. Alhamdulillah, you have returned safely after performing worship in the Holy Land. May you become a mabrur Hajj and mabruroh Hajjah, and be able to bring values of goodness, peace, and exemplary conduct to your families and communities,” he said. He also expressed hope that the spiritual experience gained during the pilgrimage would serve as a foundation to strengthen unity, increase social awareness, and maintain harmony in their respective environments. “The title of mabrur Hajj is not only visible while in the Holy Land, but is also reflected in daily life after returning to the community. We hope the pilgrims can become role models in maintaining unity, harmony, and soothing religious values,” he concluded.
