PPIH: Insurance for deceased pilgrims to be paid after hajj operations conclude

The Hajj Organising Committee (PPIH) for Debarkasi Palembang, South Sumatra, has stated that insurance payments for pilgrims who died whilst performing the hajj in Saudi Arabia will be made after the entire series of hajj operational activities has concluded. Head of the Public Relations Sub-Division of PPIH Debarkasi Palembang, Haris Alkawarizmi, said in Palembang on Monday that the government has guaranteed insurance protection for deceased pilgrims through cooperation with an insurance provider. He explained that to date, eight pilgrims from the Palembang embarkation point have died whilst performing the hajj in Saudi Arabia. Of that number, seven were from South Sumatra and one was from Bangka Belitung. Pilgrims who die due to illness or ordinary causes are entitled to receive insurance compensation equal to the Hajj Travel Cost (BIPIH) that was paid upon settlement of the hajj fees. For pilgrims departing through the Palembang embarkation point, the BIPIH value this hajj season is Rp54,206,922. The disbursement of the compensation is processed after all hajj operations have ended and the data of the deceased pilgrims has been fully verified by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. The compensation funds will be transferred directly by the bank or insurance company to the deceased pilgrim’s account according to the applicable mechanism, rather than being given in cash to the heirs. Haris stated that heirs do not need to manage the disbursement process independently, as all administration will be handled by the government. Heirs simply need to wait, as everything is processed by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. If any documents are required, further confirmation will be sought.
