PPI Director Analysis: Prabowo Issues Warning to Parties Funding Protests

President Prabowo Subianto has stated he knows the parties behind the funding of recent protest actions. Director of Parameter Politik Indonesia (PPI) Adi Prayitno assessed that the warning indicates the demonstrations are certainly being monitored by the government. “Specifically, it seems to be aimed at demonstrators who are paid by certain parties to oppose the government’s political policies,” Adi Prayitno told journalists on Friday (26/6/2026). “It is a kind of warning that every demonstration activity is under the surveillance of the authorities. And surely the government has data on which demonstrations are genuine and which are impure, driven by certain political interests,” he added. Adi assessed that Prabowo considers the recent demonstrations to be lowering the government’s image. Consequently, he believes Prabowo ultimately issued the statement. “That means the recent demonstrations are considered to have been hijacked to downgrade the government’s image. That is the most likely meaning to be interpreted from the statement,” he said. “What exactly happened, of course the public does not know precisely,” he added. Furthermore, Adi assessed that demonstrations have long been divided into two types. First, demonstrations that are considered truly pure for the people’s interests and far from being hijacked by certain political parties. “This kind of demo is considered independent and ideal, because it is purely to fight for the people’s fate and rejects all forms of intervention from any party,” he said. Second, he said, there are demonstrations considered to be hijacked by certain political interest groups. On paper, such demos appear to be for the people, although at the same time they are intertwined with certain political interests. “This typology of demonstration has been occurring for a long time,” he said. Prabowo previously addressed several matters in his speech at the Peak of the XVII National Week of Farmers and Fishermen in Gorontalo on Wednesday (24/6), including the demonstrations occurring in several regions recently. Prabowo said he knows the actors behind these demonstrations. Prabowo stated these parties do not like him. Prabowo asserted he knows the corrupt individuals. “Polite but still thieves, polite but corrupt. Pretending, pretending to be rich, pretending to have lots of money. When the money is stolen from the people. I have been an Indonesian for a long time, I know all of that, brothers and sisters. They don’t like Prabowo because Prabowo understands,” said Prabowo. Prabowo mentioned these parties are also involved in providing payments for the recent demos. Prabowo warned these parties. “Brothers and sisters. Be careful, you know. I give a warning to those people. I know who pays for the demos, I know that. But it’s okay, go ahead and demonstrate. Ask them, ask the demo kids, they don’t understand. What do you want to demo about, huh? Hmmm… we were paid Rp 200 thousand, like that, right. But it exists. I don’t understand,” he said.
