PPFI pushes for more adaptive film industry regulations

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Film Companies Association (PPFI) is advocating for more adaptive film industry regulation and policies that can support the growth and advancement of the national film industry.

In a press release issued on Thursday, PPFI stated that the national film industry is entering a new chapter and requires regulation that is more adaptive to technological developments, distribution patterns, financing schemes, and global competition.

PPFI Chairman Deddy Mizwar said that PPFI, as an organisation now 70 years old, must fight for policies that can foster the healthy growth of the national film industry.

“Our founders laid a strong foundation for Indonesian cinema. Our task today is to continue that struggle by delivering policies that enable the Indonesian film industry to grow healthily, competitively, and hold a position on par with the world stage,” he explained.

PPFI wishes to make the organisation’s 70th anniversary the beginning of a renewed effort to strengthen the role of Indonesian film as part of the nation’s cultural identity and as a creative industry capable of competing on the world stage.

PPFI has committed to strengthening collaboration among all industry players, driving reform of film policy, improving the professionalism of film companies, and expanding the presence of Indonesian films in international markets.

“Now is the time for all stakeholders to work together to build regulations and policies that provide protection, certainty, and fair opportunity for national film companies,” he said.

“PPFI is ready to be a strategic partner of the government in achieving these goals,” he added.

PPFI has held its 2026 Annual Members’ Meeting and the 70th Anniversary Thanksgiving event at the H. Usmar Ismail Film Centre in Jakarta.

Among other things, the annual members’ meeting agreed on efforts to accelerate the revision of the Film Law, strengthen the position of national film companies within the industry ecosystem, broaden access to financing, improve intellectual property rights protection, and enhance international cooperation.

In addition, the management reported the organisation’s achievements in building partnerships, initiating the Indonesian Film Producers Forum, and establishing the Indonesia Oscar Selection Committee (IOSC) to select Indonesian films eligible for the International Feature Film category of the Academy Awards.
